SVP goal: To support organizations working in and around Kolkata in enhancing their impact by mentoring and providing capacity-building support.

NGO Goal: Towards Future is a non-profit, non-governmental organization registered in 2008. It has been working for children and women since its inception. The organization has been dedicated to improving access to quality education at the grassroots level. The major objective of the organization is to foster the holistic development of children and women by providing hand-hold support on education, nutrition, and self-dependency. The organization now has one primary school, one pre-primary school, three campsite learning centres for the children of migrant workers, and one tutorial centre. Besides these setups, Towards Future collaborates with government-sponsored schools on library education programs. Currently, we are working in nine-primary and one upper-primary school. More than 1100 children are receiving direct support from different projects of Towards Future and more than 5000 children are being benefited indirectly by the programme activities.

Project description

All the projects of Towards Future, not only foster care for children but also care for their extended family members. Our next five-year plan has been made based on this view. One of the five-year plans is to focus on employable capacity-building training for women (16 +), the second is to provide support on capacity-building training to our 2nd line field and leadership team, and the third plan is to expand our primary school project to secondary school.  Through this five-year’s plan, we would like to increase women’s and community engagement (along with women we are targeting young girls) during this period. The project will explore the areas of employable skill development training programmes that will empower women and young girls financially and psychologically. As a succession plan of the organization, we are looking for our 2nd line leadership. The major focus areas of this particular project are as follows:

  1. Increase Women’s Engagement by providing them employable skill development training
  2. Capacity building of 2nd line leadership as a part of organization’s succession plan
  3. Capacity Building training for the 2nd line field management team

Duration: 3 years+ (based on the joint evaluation after every year)
